The Finnish company Nokia has signed an important contract in India’s 5G network deployment.

Nokia and Reliance Jio, a major Indian telecom operator, have signed a long-term contract to supply 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment in the country, which will be the world’s largest 5G network, it said. From the contract between Nokia and Reliance Jio, the Finnish company has 5G base stations. Components will be supplied from the company’s AirScale Portfolio, including high-performance 5G Massive MIMO antennas and Remote Radio Heads (RRH) and self-assembled network software.

Jio is also preparing to roll out a 5G standalone network that can interact with the company’s 4G network. With more than 420 million users on the Jio network, it is estimated that users transitioning from 4G to 5G will be able to use a network that is more than 10 times faster than the current 4G. Nokia is said to be ready to supply network equipment to three of India’s largest telecom operators.

Last May, Nokia and Vodafone Idea signed a contract, and in August, it was announced that they were able to sign a contract with Airtel. The 5G network deal with Reliance Jio is a significant achievement for Nokia in an important market and a new customer in one of the largest RAN areas in the world, he said.
