Smasung sets new 5G speed record

South Korean company Samsung Electronics claims to have achieved the fastest data transmission on record over a 5G mmWave network.

It was tested in collaboration between Samsung and NBN Co. NBN Co, which is part of Australia’s A$750 million investment project, is also using various software upgrades to develop the 5G network. During the field test between Samsung and NBN, the average download speed reached 1.75Gbps and the upload speed reached 61.5Mbps.

The highest download speed reached 2.7Gbps, and it reached this speed from a distance of more than 10 kilometers (over 6 miles) from the starting point. During the test, the 5G mmWave frequency band, which is the high-frequency radio wave used for 5G wireless communication, was used. Samsung used the company’s 28GHz Compact Macro and third-party 5G mmWave equipment.

Samsung’s Compact Macro is a radio for the mmWave frequency band in the 5G field. It is also said to be the first Integrated Radio that integrates baseband and antenna into one. Samsung and NBN said that this new milestone, which the two companies tested and achieved a record 5G speed, is an important step in the development of 5G networks in densely populated areas such as urban areas as well as in rural areas.
