2024 is The End of Compact Flagship Phones
Compact Flagships are loved obviously, but…no one buys and uses them ????
The other day, ASUS introduced the new Zenfone, A live presentation that can’t even be called a 15-minute event was introduced to the new Zenfone – but the Zenfone 9 in the east | The Zenfone 11 Ultra is no longer a cute compact phone like the Zenfone 10, but a large size phone with a 6.78″ display was introduced.
This is almost 1 inch larger than the 5.9″ display of the Zenfone 10. ASUS says that the phone is 11 Ultra, so it has not been confirmed whether it will release a compact Zenfone 11 with a smaller size. It is possible that as a company that does not prioritize phones like ASUS, it is almost impossible to continue to release it.
And before talking about the ASUS Zenfone 11 Ultra, the news that came up on X (Twitter) is another compact phone lineup after ASUS this year – Sony Xperia 5 Series will not be introduced this year and will stop production.
That’s why Sony introduced last year’s 6.1″ 21:9 Display and the Xperia 5 V has become the last Xperia 5 Series phone. If we look at the news that the Xperia I VI, which was reported a day ago, will switch from a 21:9 4K display to a 19.5:9 2K+ display like other regular phones, it is more likely that Sony will not continue to release it. In 2024, the entire Xperia smartphone lineup will be redesigned, and some phones such as the Xperia 5 Series will be discontinued.
If the Zenfone and Xperia 5 Series are gone, it will be compact around 6″ and there will only be Pixel phones and Samsung Base S Series – even so, the Pixel 8a will be bigger than before, so it’s hard to say it’s compact at 6.2″.
As I said at the time of the iPhone 12 mini – people want to use a phone for more than just a phone. When you want to do everything, no matter how much anyone likes these compact flagship phones… I can’t really buy and use them. They don’t buy and use.
The easiest thing is that if you ask people who say they like this compact flagship phone, they will always say, “Battery doesn’t work”. “Because I can’t play games” “The screen is too small to watch the video” “Why can’t I get this?” Although it is the latest compact phone, even if it is added to get the flagship specs, they give various excuses like “it is not as cheap as the prices of second phones from China PI”… they really don’t buy it. This is for everyone – no matter how cute you are at first. It’s cool, but no matter how much they like it, more than 90% of them don’t use it as their main device.
Even we ourselves have used the iPhone 12 mini for 2 years without any of these reasons – the goodness of a flagship compact phone; I suffered from all the bad things… later on I needed a power bank wherever I went – but Apple itself didn’t continue to produce it. At the time when we were upgrading, the compact iPhone was no longer covered by sales.
Anyway, 2024 is almost certainly the last year of compact flagship phones. There are already reports that next year’s S25 will be 6.2″ to 6.36”.
There is nothing to say about the ASUS Zenfone 11 Ultra phone. ROG Phone 8 is a normal flagship phone without gaming features –
